With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, many of you are likely trying to think of romantic things to do or see. February 14 in Canada is right in the middle of winter, which typically means cold weather and lots of snow. But that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to do. In fact, sparkling snow can be just what it takes to create that magically romantic winter wonderland.

You may want to sleep under the Yukon Northern Lights or admire them from the Northwest Territories. You may want to take a helicopter ride over Niagara Falls or go winter wine tasting in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Maybe you want to check out live theatre in the big city of Toronto or go for a graffiti tour in trendy Montreal.

Whatever it is, there are tons of places to go for Valentine’s day and things to do. Leave the family members behind, grab your partner and choose a Valentine’s activity from this list.

Ski Banff with Matt and Karla

With winter in Canada taking up the better part of a year, it really makes sense to get the most out of it. Those who choose to just bundle up and stay indoors are bound to not only have a miserable 4-6 months but also lose out on all the wonderful winter activities available from coast to coast to coast.

For visitors, the winter can be such a beautiful time to visit Canada. Yes, it’s colder and darker, but it’s also home to some really fun and unique activities, as well as cheaper accommodation and fewer crowds.

While we don’t love the extreme cold, we do love the winter! Plus, if you buy the right winter clothes, the cold is much more manageable. Most importantly though, winter brings out the best activities and we always look forward to getting out in the snow and enjoying this bug-free time of year. Traditional Inuit clothing in Tuktoyaktuk, NWT

Updated: January 18, 2021

With more than one million square kilometres of land area and a population of less than 50,000, the Northwest Territories are about as wild as it gets. It’s certainly not an easy area to visit (many places are fly-in, many roads are gravel, and distances are vast) but for those who make the effort, there are some incredible places to see and things to do in Northwest Territories.

Whether you’re looking to drive Canada’s only highway to the arctic ocean, fly over the world’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site, sleep at a secluded fishing lodge, admire the Northern Lights, or visit some charming northern towns like Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk, the Northwest Territories is an adventurer’s paradise. things to do in ontario

Last updated: May 15th, 2021

Ontario is one of the biggest provinces in Canada and is home to some amazing cities, attractions, and nature. Ranging from the massive cosmopolitan city of Toronto to the scenic landscapes of Algonquin Provincial Park. From kayaking next to loons to experiencing Canada Day on Parliament Hill, Ontario is definitely one of the most popular provinces to visit in Canada.

We experienced a lot of the best things to do in Ontario, and we’re so excited to be sharing it with you!

Some of the wonderful attractions in Ontario included taking a helicopter tour over Niagara Falls, interviewing refugees in downtown Toronto and experiencing the thrill of some of the world’s best roller coasters at Canada’s Wonderland. We also ran around the world’s largest escape room just outside of Ottawa, and sampled award-winning wines near Niagara-on-the-Lake, just to name a few.

We’ve travelled here many times, in both the summer and in the winter, and can’t wait to return again one day and explore the province further.

Much of Ontario’s most famous attractions and cities are located in the Southeastern part of the province. However, the province is also home to a lot of beautiful lakes and forests, leaving tons of room for visitors to explore the vast natural landscapes spread across the province. Whether you’re looking for big vibrant cities, small lakeside towns, or beautiful natural scenery, Ontario is the place for you!

From boreal forests to vast prairies and high mountain peaks, Alberta is an incredible province to explore. Born and raised in Alberta, I certainly feel that I know Alberta better than most. I’ve been to each major city and almost every small town in the province, giving me great insight into the province that I call home.

Although Alberta is one of only two provinces that are landlocked, Alberta is about as diverse as it gets. From looking at Dinosaur skeletons in the badlands and hiking some of the tallest mountain peaks in the country to splashing around in North America’s largest indoor waterpark and driving one of the world’s most scenic highways, Alberta is an incredible place to explore.

Whether you’re planning to explore the cities, the mountains, or everything in-between, we’ve got you covered in this comprehensive travel guide to the wonderful province of Alberta.

There are so many incredible things to do in British Columbia. From lush rainforest to high mountain peaks and the Pacific Ocean, British Columbia is an incredible province to explore. Living next door in Alberta, we’ve been to BC many times and have experienced it from north to south and from east to west.

Although British Columbia is home to the mildest climate in Canada, it’s also about as diverse as it gets. From being able to go surfing and skiing (possibly during the same day) to being able to hike some of Canada’s tallest mountains or exploring one of North America’s most dense cities, BC is a treasure trove for tourists and locals alike.

Whether you’re planning to explore the cities, the mountains, the ocean or everything in-between, we’ve got you covered in this comprehensive travel guide to the wonderful province of British Columbia.

25 AWESOME Things to Do in Edmonton in 2022

Things to Do in Edmonton

Updated: April 10th, 2022

Known as the “Gateway to the North”, Alberta’s capital city is the farthest north of Canada’s major cities and is home to a variety of things to do and places to see. Stretched along the banks of the North Saskatchewan River, Edmonton is a city that can be visited year-round, depending on what you’re looking for. Due to its location, Edmonton’s winters can be some of the coldest and darkest in Canada, and yet, it can be a great time to visit if you’re looking to experience frozen castles, ice hockey, or perhaps the Northern Lights. The summers, in contrast, can be quite hot with the sun staying up until close to midnight. This is a great time to enjoy the outdoors, as well as an incredible array of festivals and events.

Speaking of festivals, Edmonton is known to some as the “City of Festivals”. This is, in part, due to the fact that Edmonton has lively festivals all year round. However, the best of them is during the summer, when the city comes to life with the International Fringe Theatre Festival, Heritage Festival, the Folk Festival, and the International Jazz Festival, just to name a few.

So whether you’re looking for some of Canada’s best festivals, a beautiful river valley, a delicious culinary scene, or North America’s largest mall, Edmonton is a great place to visit. In this guide, we’ll show you what to do, how to get there, how to get around, and more.

20 of the Best Things To Do in Winnipeg in 2022

By Matthew G. Bailey 11 Comments

best winnipeg museum

Updated: January 5th, 2022

Growing up in Alberta, the only thing I was ever told about Winnipeg was that it was cold and boring. It was often included in various jokes, which made me think that there must be nothing to do there. Then, in the summer of 2015, both my wife and I had the opportunity to live in Winnipeg for the summer.

I had been working a sales job in Calgary and had been promoted to manager. They wanted me to start a new sales team in Winnipeg and so we had to move there for five months, from mid-April to mid-September. We rented a furnished apartment right downtown and got ready to experience as much of Winnipeg as possible. Turns out, Winnipeg is not boring at all. We loved it. Sure, the winter is very cold, but it’s quite cold all over the country.

The summer, however, turned out to be incredible. There are all sorts of festivals, two beautiful rivers, a variety of ethnic restaurants, delicious ice cream shops, and quite possibly the best museum in Canada. It’s also surrounded by many lakes, including massive Lake Winnipeg, which is home to one of the largest white sand beaches in the country!

We always look forward to going back, so if you do get the chance to go, here are some things to do in Winnipeg you shouldn’t miss.

34 of the Best Things to Do in Montreal 2022

Montreal

Last updated: March 17, 2021

One of Canada’s most famous cities, Montreal is a cosmopolitan, European-feeling city that has become one of the top travel destinations in the country. Located in the mostly French-speaking province of Quebec, Montreal is actually one of the five largest French-speaking cities in the world.

Half of my family is from Montreal and so it has a special place in my heart. Old Montreal will make you feel like you’ve suddenly stepped into medieval France and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a better city in Canada for trying French-inspired cuisine and eclectic nightlife. It’s also somewhat cheaper than most of Canada’s major cities, making it a great destination for both budget and non-budget travelers.

In this Montreal travel guide, we share with you some of the best things to do to make your next trip an unforgettable one, including top attractions, places to see, general costs, and much more. [Read more…] about 34 of the Best Things to Do in Montreal 2022
