From gluten-free to vegan options, hangover-curing sweet treats and thick slices of meats, these local haunts certainly deserve to be known for the best brunch in Edmonton.
But that’s enough of an introduction. This is where to find the best brunch in Edmonton.

One of the best restaurants in Edmonton, Sugarbowl has been affectionately dubbed as the “sweetest place in town”- and that’s something they seem to take quite literally, based on the many sweet treats on their menu.
With patio seating and a super cool vibe, this restaurant is also known for its breakfast sandwiches, huevos rancheros, and traditional eggs Benedict.

While they’ve got classic breakfast offerings, they do add unique twists to their dishes. Some tasty options include their Creamy Polenta Bowl and Sweet French Toast Bake.

We also love their extensive drinks menu, which boasts great coffee and unique concoctions like the Iced Cashew Chai made with espresso, chai, and raw cashew. Smoothies and kombuchas are also available.

This relatively new addition to Edmonton’s brunch scene opened in 2019 and has quickly become a super popular choice among locals and tourists alike.
Toast Culture‘s coffee beans and bread are locally sourced, so you’ll be supporting the local community while tucking into some seriously scrumptious offerings! They also offer a unique and extravagant toast bar, with just about every variation of bread and toast that you can think of.
If you’re in the mood for something different, their Pink Pepper and Goat Cheese Toast served on a hearty slice of sourdough bread and drizzled with maple syrup stands out to us.
Belgian waffles, Culture Egg Benny, Ahi Tuna Poke Salads, and Reuben Sandwiches are other popular choices.

Hathaway’s Diner
With delicious options and large portions, Hathaway’s Diner feels like a blast from the past when it comes to the best brunch in Edmonton! If you’re anything like me, you’ll no doubt love the old-world comfort food, complete with various types of Egg Benny.
Brace yourself for some serious feels since this classic diner comes with a hefty dose of nostalgia. Think vintage signs, large portions, and even a checkerboard floor.
As far as the food is concerned, you can expect heaps of classic breakfast offerings like breakfast burritos, hashbrowns, Eggs Benny, Fresh Fruit cups, and the ever-popular Corned Beef Hash Skillet. For something delightfully boozy, the spiked milkshake sounds unreal.

Ampersand 27
In our opinion, Ampersand 27 is the perfect spot for enjoying a scrumptious weekend brunch with friends or family. After all, it’s only open for brunch on Sundays!
With an upmarket brunch menu made from the freshest ingredients, Ampersand 27 has a pretty artsy vibe- something that’s reflected in its eye-catching presentation.
By far the most popular (and Instagrammable) item on their menu is their Brunchuterie Board, a visually striking medley of toast, fresh fruit, Belgian waffles, crispy potatoes, fried eggs, maple syrup and more. There’s an insane amount of food on the board, so it’s perfect for sharing between two to three people.
In addition to Sunday brunch, this restaurant is also known for its craft cocktails and hearty weekday dinners.

With a sister restaurant in Calgary, the Bro’Kin Yolk is known for its extensive menu. From vegan options to crispy potatoes, fried egg, sweet treats, and even breakfast poutines, this is one spot that’s got it all!
We love eggs (in all forms!) so the Eggs Benny Bar was a real thrill for us. Speaking of bars, be sure to check out their Coffee Bar as well, which features a variety of hot espresso beverages like the London Fog and Lavender Latte.
This place also offers a few Filipino specialties, including the Fili Breakfast Bowl, which features two sunny eggs, tomato salsa, Longanisa sausage, chilli soy sauce, and jasmine rice.

De Dutch
First established in 1975, De Dutch is practically an institution in Edmonton. True to its name, this urban diner offers plenty of Dutch offerings- and yes, that includes Dutch pancakes as well!
In fact, their menu boasts several types of savoury and sweet Pannekoekens (Dutch pancakes). Some are served with whipped cream, fresh fruit, and lashings of Stroop (a Dutch syrup), but my personal favourite is their savoury ham and eggs. Rest assured that gluten-free Pannekoekens are also available.
For something heartier, you can always order their breakfast platter, which is bound to keep you full for hours!

Tiramisu Bistro
As far as the best brunch spots in Edmonton are concerned, the Tiramisu Bistro is the kind of spot that you’ll want to return to over and over again!
The restaurant’s slogan reads ‘home away from home’ and it won’t take you long to realize they’ve achieved just that. The place has a really homely atmosphere, something that’s only enhanced by its delicious meals.
Various types of Egg Benedict are available, but we recommend the Spaghetti Benny, which is just as scrumptious as it sounds, with spaghetti, bacon, fried egg, garlic, Italian sausage, and hollandaise sauce. It may sound like a weird combo, but the reviews state that it’s an exceptionally delectable assortment of flavours! If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you may also wish to try their ridiculously fluffy cinnamon bun French toast.
Their drinks menu is just as impressive, with plenty of boozy coffee like the Hazelnut Espresso Martini and the Coffee Nudge, which contains steamed milk, espresso, dark chocolate and generous amounts of Frangelico and whipped cream.

Barb and Ernie’s Old Country Inn
No list of the best brunch in Edmonton would be complete without mentioning Barb and Ernie’s Old Country Inn, another local favourite!
Dating all the way back to 1975, this restaurant has a massive brunch menu with heaps of German and local specialties. The numerous combinations mean that there’s something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for a sweet treat or a savoury breakfast.
As for us, we love pancakes and their hotcakes are said to be the largest in Edmonton! We’re also intrigued by their German Bacon Pancakes and the Barn and Ernie’s Special Breakfast, which consists of a base of your choice (pancakes, Belgian waffle, crepe, and the likes), any style of eggs, and a protein of your choice (such as the pork schnitzel). You can also add fruit topping and whipped cream.

Café Bicyclette
For classic Quebecois and French flavours, you’ll want to visit Café Bicyclette, located in the French Quarter.
While it does serve coffee and fresh pastries during the week, its brunch menu is only available on the weekend and we’ve been told it’s well worth the wait!
Heaps of traditional dishes await, including the beloved Brie-Fast Tartines. These are exquisitely decadent pastries filled to the brim with Brie and finished with a brown butter hollandaise sauce, chipotle salt, and poached egg. It’s served alongside a side salad to keep things a tad healthy.
While this one is a fan favourite, you’ll also find other types of Tartines, including smoked salmon and chicken. Breakfast poutines, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes, and different types of Egg Benny are also on the menu.

Rooster Kitchen and Bar
Rooster Kitchen and Bar always seems to be packed full of locals, which is always a good sign!
The only hitch is that you need to head there early to take advantage of their early bird specials that last until 10 a.m.
Rooster Kitchen and Bar offers so many options that you’ll need to visit a few times to properly make your way through some of their top dishes. One of their most swoon-worthy offerings is the Rooster Polachintas, which even won an award! This incredible concoction is made up of a pair of ricotta-stuffed blintzes topped with their house berry compote and sour cream.
Another popular item is their Cheesecake stuffed French toast and the Iron Brisket Skillet.

Highlevel Diner
Are you in the mood for something hip and casual? Then there’s no better destination than the Highlevel Diner, open every single day of the week, except Mondays.
With a welcoming atmosphere and walls adorned with works from local artists, the Highlevel Diner perfectly embodies that classic Canadian community spirit. This is echoed through the restaurant’s Hygge Comfort Menu, which is brimming with delicacies like Guinness Cottage Pie, Borscht, and Tourtiere, a traditional meat pie made with turkey, pork, and beef.
Their Brunch Menu is just as impressive with various types of eggs benedict (we want to try the Canadian Sushi Benedict), Huevos Rancheros, and buttermilk pancakes.

Wilfred’s
Commanding an excellent location in the Brewery District, Wilfred’s is the type of place that’ll remind you of those bygone days! To begin with, it’s housed in a century-old heritage brick building.
Featuring wooden accents, a pink tiled bar area, and walls covered in crayon paintings, Wilfred’s got an all-day breakfast with Bananas Foster Waffle, Salmon Gravlax Toast, and The Classic, which is made of fried eggs, cheese, hash browns, biscuit, tomatoes, and house maple sausage.
Other standouts are their Smashed Maple Sandwich and Shakshuka. You’ll also find the usual brunch cocktails like Mimosa and Wilfred’s Caesar.

Commodore
Affordable prices, large portions, and old-world comfort food. What’s not to like at Commodore?
This spot’s been in the same Jasper Avenue location since 1942. If, like us, you love those classic diner vibes, you’ll probably love Commodore! Their all-day breakfast menu is packed full of goodies like hotcakes, French toast, and practically all forms of eggs.
We’d probably order their sirloin steak sandwich served on crisp, thickly buttered toast with onions and either fries or the house salad.

Tasty Tom’s
Because it’s housed in a nondescript (not to mention tiny) yellow and red building, a lot of people just pass by Tasty Tom’s without a second glance. Heck, we might have gone right past it too had it not been for a friend who introduced us to the place!
Inside, the restaurant is just as unpretentious with a rustic yet warm décor that’s only enhanced by its friendly staff.
Breakfast is served all day. They’re especially known for their succulent French toast and pancakes smothered in syrup, butter, and icing sugar. Burgers and Reubens are also served all day – even in the morning!

Central Social Hall
Central Social Hall has a sister restaurant in St. Albert, but we visited the one in downtown Edmonton. Breakfast is served all day, every day, but we recommend visiting during the weekend to try their special brunch menu.
They’re mostly known for their hearty brunch bowl laden with poached eggs, crispy potatoes, local Italian sausage, and the like. One of our favourite brunch options is their Central Breakfast Sandwich, which consists of a brioche bun, free-range fried eggs, bacon, cheddar, tomato, arugula, and garlic mayo.
Fancy a boozy brunch? Rest assured that the restaurant also serves tableside mimosas!

Rebel Food and Drink
Last on our list of the best brunch in Edmonton is Rebel Food and Drink, another super great brunch spot that encourages its patrons to be ‘a little different and go against the grain’- so don’t be surprised if you see some unique twists on their menu!
For instance, a popular option off their brunch menu is Cake for Breakfast, which is perfect for those with a sweet tooth! Served alongside a tall glass of milk, it’s got Froot Loop cereal, confetti cake, and vanilla frosting.
If you’re more of a savoury person, we recommend trying their Breakfast Tacos, which consist of scrambled huevos, bacon, salsa, black beans, jalapeno queso, and avocado, all served on corn tortillas alongside tater tots.
