Five locally loved cafes in Saskatoon to check out on your next visit

Do not get me wrong – this is not an exhaustive list of the only cafes we have in Saskatoon. Known for having the highest number of restaurants and cafes per capita in the country, it was an extremely difficult task narrowing it down – but I had to start somewhere! The cafes listed below are all locally loved, each with its own incredible menu, unique offerings, strong sense of community, and even stronger coffee. Next time you’re visiting, or even passing through Saskatoon, close the Starbucks app and fall in love with one of these local gems!
Pique Café

If you’re looking for a classic downtown spot, reminiscent of a gorgeous European cafe, you need to check out Pique Cafe. Opened in February 2024 by the owners of Calories, the relaxed and inviting atmosphere is enhanced by natural light and soft music, with a menu of ‘classic with a twist’ items, sweet and savoury baked goods made onsite with organic and local products, a small market – and bonus, it’s even licensed!
This café is the perfect space to enjoy an elevated Saturday morning brunch, chill and cozy evening vibes, or a lively weekday meet-up. With a unique menu, great for those with dietary restrictions, to enjoy in, or ‘grab & go’ for those on the run, this is your go-to spot for crispy flaky pastries and strong coffee – and honestly, what more would one want?

Citizen Café

Citizen café is one of my favourite and best local cafes in the city. Located on the edge of downtown, they are famed for their delicious menu of amazing soups, hearty sandwiches, a beverage menu that would rival the big chains, and of course, the out-of-this-world baking (homemade Pop-Tarts, anyone?). It is a perfect spot, especially for anyone with dietary restrictions. Their sense of community is strong as they also collaborate with other local businesses, such as small craft butchery, The Pig & Pantry, and The Night Oven Bakery, so you’re not just supporting one local business, but many. With particularly friendly staff and an inclusive atmosphere and menu, it is an ideal hidden gem for those casual meetings, friendly catch-ups, or even those times to take a moment and treat yourself.

HomeQuarter Coffeehouse & Bakery

Locally owned and located in Riversdale, across from Gather Local Market (so you know there is plenty of good parking), HomeQuarter Coffeehouse & Bakery serves a wide variety of menu items. From strong coffees, warm baked goods, breakfast and lunch items, and seasonal specials. They also have retail selection with freshly baked bread, as well as ‘heat & serve’ items that include soups, mains, and desserts, for you to enjoy at home. Bright and sunny, with plenty of greenery and natural light, this two-level café has plenty of seating and a warm and welcoming neighbourhood atmosphere.

Boomtown Café

Another one of my favourite cafes in town to escape to is the Boomtown Café, inside the ever-popular Western Development Museum. The endearing turn-of-the-century vibes (20th century to be specific) feel like a trip back to the grandparents’ farm. With warm wood furnishings, a tin-tiled ceiling, familiar antique décor, and a basic but wholesome (and cost-effective) menu that feels like Grandma made it, visiting this café feels like a loving hug from the past.
Pro tip: make sure you buy a handmade pie to take home, before you check out the museum and stroll through 1910 ‘Boomtown’ Saskatoon, and the charming gift shop filled with local products and special treasures.

D’Lish by Tish Café

Known for its award-winning homemade soups, this local favourite celebrates its 13th birthday this year (2026), and has everything you could ever want in a neighbourhood café.
- Incredible coffee menu
- Home-cooked meals with plenty for those with dietary restrictions
- Live music nights
- Open late and licensed
- Strong community connection
- Out of this world baked goods
- Decadent desserts
- Bright and lively scene with whimsy and a welcoming vibe
You don’t want to miss their monthly soup menu, published on their social media for all your soup scheduling needs. D’lish is so popular with locals that you’ll want to make sure you can find a table first, then be prepared to wait in line (they’re always busy – but trust me, it’s worth it)!
Recommend: Check out their soup menu as it changes daily, and seriously, you can’t go
wrong with their soup. Today I got chicken noodle soup with a coconut milk latte. I think it
healed part of me that I didn’t even know was broken.
- Address: 702 14 St E, Saskatoon, SK
- Opening hours:
- Mon – Sat: 8 am – 10 pm
- Sun: 10 am – 5 pm
