Sudbury might be known for its nickel mines and stunning landscapes, but its food scene? That’s a hidden gem just waiting to be devoured! Whether you’re a fan of comfort food classics, exotic international flavours, or innovative gourmet dishes, Sudbury’s restaurant scene is a deliciously diverse mix of local flair and global influence.
We just got back from spending a week in Sudbury, which gave us the chance to try out many restaurants for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. From cozy cafés with delicious coffee to upscale eateries offering fresh farm-to-table fare, we were really surprised by the array of dining venues in the city. We also noticed that there are so many Italian restaurants in Sudbury. On a per capita basis, it has to be one of the top cities for Italian food, whether that be delicious ravioli, mouth-watering pizza, or a tasty slice of tiramisu.
Whatever your craving, enjoy this list of the best restaurants in Sudbury!
Ripe Restaurant
Ripe Restaurant was the first place we enjoyed dinner during our time in Sudbury and it remains one of our favourites. With its farm-to-table philosophy, Ripe takes pride in using fresh, locally sourced ingredients that pack every dish with flavour and seasonal flair. The menu is a creative mix of contemporary cuisine and comforting classics, offering everything from handcrafted pasta dishes to perfectly seared steaks.
Whenever I visit an Italian restaurant, I tend to lean toward the ravioli, and in this case, I was not disappointed. I went for the Maple Ravioli, which consists of ricotta-stuffed ravioli, maple whiskey butter sauce, spinach, and walnuts, all combined to produce a delicious dish.
The cozy yet stylish atmosphere is perfect for a romantic date or a fun night out with friends, and the service was some of the best we experienced in the city, making this one of the best restaurants in Sudbury.
Wander Food & Wine
Wander Food & Wine is a hidden gem in Sudbury that takes your taste buds on a global adventure without leaving town! Known for its unique concept, Wander serves up small plates inspired by flavours from all over the world, perfectly paired with an extensive wine list that’ll make any wine lover swoon.
Speaking of wine, we happened to be there for one of their evening tasting parties, an event where they bring in a local Ontario wine producer who visits you at your table and helps you pair their wine with what you order. My favourite part is that you can opt for a flight of wines, allowing you to sample pairings with the different items you order, such as appetizers, main courses, and desserts.
Located right in the heart of downtown Durham Street, the atmosphere is chic and cozy, making it perfect for a casual night out or a celebration with friends. The menu changes quite frequently as well, which ensures you’ll always experience something new.
The Kouzzina
This is one of the restaurants we sadly weren’t able to experience ourselves, but according to many of the locals we spoke with, as well as TripAdvisor, The Kouzzina is the #1 restaurant in Sudbury. Serving up Mediterranean vibes and mouthwatering flavours, we’ve been told it’s quite possibly the best Greek food outside of Greece. Some crowd favourites are their perfectly grilled souvlaki, their irresistible spanakopita, their fresh Greek salad, and their hearty moussaka.
The warm, inviting atmosphere, combined with friendly service and a beautiful patio, makes it the go-to spot for a fun family dinner or a night out with friends.
Respect Is Burning Supperclub
Another popular and lively Italian restaurant is the Respect is Burning Supperclub. The name is interesting in its own right but it’s the food and ambience that people come here for.
Located on Durham Street in downtown Sudbury, this funky, retro-inspired restaurant brings the heat with its wood-fired pizzas, handmade pasta, and sizzling grill dishes, all infused with a soulful, rustic Italian vibe. The vibe is electric, with a laid-back atmosphere that mixes cozy and stylish perfectly—ideal for both a casual dinner and a lively night out.
As tempted as I was to go for their Black Pan pan-crusted salmon or Grilled Ribeye Beef, I ended up going for their Sage Buttered Dumplings, which are beef and cheese stuffed dumplings in sage butter and white wine velvet parmigiano crema. As you can probably imagine, It was quite rich and tasty. For appetizers, we went for their Smoky Sunset Bruschetta, which features smoked velvet salmon carpaccio, capers, red onion, lemon squeeze, and cream cheese, and their beef carpaccio, which features AAA spice crusted raw sirloin beef. While both appetizers were delicious, the Smoky Sunset Bruschetta was the winner. If you’re a fan of tiramisu like us, you’ll also want to try their Dolcemisu, which basically combines the best of a tiramisu with the best of a Tuscan sugar cake. Very good and creamy!
Toss in an extensive cocktail and wine list, and it’s easy to see why this place gets so busy in the evenings.
Tucos Taco Lounge
Everyone loves tacos and Tucos Taco Lounge is a great place to eat some. However, this isn’t your typical taco joint. This place is vegan!
Whether you’re vegan or not, there’s a reason this is one of the best restaurants in Sudbury. From their famous vegan jackfruit tacos to their Hawaiian nachos and taco salad burritos, each dish packs so much flavour. We ended up here for a quick snack and opted for their Sopes, which feature two hand-formed corn tortillas, refried black beans, cabbage, pico de gallo, pickled onions, and crema, resulting in one of the best we’ve ever had.
The laid-back, colourful atmosphere makes it the perfect spot to kick back with friends, sip on a margarita, and dig into some seriously tasty eats. Whether you’re vegan or just love great tacos, Tucos is a must-visit, proving that plant-based food can be as exciting as it is delicious!
Laughing Buddha
Another popular spot for vegan and vegetarian dishes, as well as meat options too, is Laughing Buddha. Not only does it have one of the best patios in the city, but the Laughing Buddha serves up some of the best sandwiches, pizzas, and creative salads in town.
The restaurant certainly leans towards the fun, funky side of things, which is perfect for anyone looking for a chill setting. We tried a few items off their seasonal menus, which included a very tasty orange-walnut salad and chicken skewers, but we also loved their pork belly bao buns, which consist of grilled tamari & five spice marinated pork belly, pickled carrots, watermelon radish, pickled red onion, five spice mayo & cilantro, and black sesame. We washed it down with a couple of cocktails before heading over to check out the Up Here Festival on Durham Street.
Whether you’re looking to hang out with friends on their eclectic patio or somewhere to enjoy a variety of delicious fare, the Laughing Buddha is one of the best restaurants in Sudbury.
Tommy’s Not Here
Another restaurant I wish we could have made it to is Tommy’s Not Here, which has a whopping 4.8 score on Google Reviews. Wild mushroom ravioli, duck confit penne, and lamb shank are just some of the items that people seem to rave about. It’s known to deliver an upscale dining experience with reasonable prices, high-quality food, delicious desserts, and a good wine list.
The intimate atmosphere makes it ideal for a romantic dinner or a special night out, with dim lighting and an upscale vibe that invites you to sit back and savour every bite. For foodies and fine-dining fans looking for the best restaurants in Sudbury, make sure Tommy’s Not Here is on your list!

This chic spot is perfect for any occasion, offering a menu that boasts delectable Italian cuisine with a modern twist. From their perfectly crisp calamari to rich, flavorful pasta dishes and decadent desserts, every bite at Peppi’s is a culinary delight. The stylish bar-like ambiance sets the stage for a memorable dining experience, whether you’re celebrating a special event or just indulging in a fantastic meal with friends.
We visited during lunch and opted for one of their many deliciously toasted panini’s, which is something they’re known for. We also had the meatballs as an appetizer and they made us feel like we stepped into an Italian grandmother’s kitchen. Super good!
Beni Rise & Shine
When it comes to breakfast, Beni Rise & Shine was one of our favourites. Known for its vibrant, cheerful atmosphere, Beni’s serves up a menu packed with mouthwatering options, from fluffy pancakes and savoury omelets to their legendary eggs Benedict. We came here twice and shared a couple of different options, giving us the chance to indulge in their Crème brûlée French toast, fluffy blueberry pancakes, and both their Mexican and Pork Belly benedict. Our favourite dish was the French toast. However, it can be very sweet so you might want to ask for the topping on the side. In addition to the breakfast, they have a bakery and coffee shop within the restaurant, which makes things like Mochas and Lattes very good.
Sapporo Ichiban
Sapporo Ichiban is Sudbury’s ultimate destination for authentic Japanese cuisine that hits all the right notes! Thankfully, we arrived just before the dinner rush as this place can get packed! But that just means the food and service are great. From deliciously fresh sushi to hearty ramen bowls, mouthwatering teriyaki dishes, and beyond, this place will certainly cure a craving for Japanese food.
Whether you’re a sushi aficionado or new to Japanese cuisine, Sapporo Ichiban’s expertly crafted dishes and vibrant flavours make it a top choice for anyone craving a taste of Japan in Sudbury!
Knowhere Public House
Knowhere Public House is Sudbury’s favourite spot where great food meets a laid-back, lively atmosphere! Known for its mouthwatering menu of comfort classics with a gourmet twist, Knowhere Public House serves up everything from juicy burgers and crispy fish and chips to inventive salads and hearty brunch options.
We had planned to visit this restaurant for brunch but due to timing, we weren’t able to make it. However, we were told that the food is really good, the vibe is relaxed and welcoming, and the craft beer selection is great, making this one of the best places to enjoy lunch, brunch, or dinner.
Pinchman’s Bakery
We came to Pinchman’s Bakery for breakfast and got there just in time, right before the line went almost to the door. It’s easy to see why this place is popular. While they don’t have many options for breakfast, the breakfast sandwich we had was mouthwatering good with a fried egg, avocado, fried onions, house mayo, peameal bacon, and cheddar cheese, pressed on challah bread with a side of sriracha aioli. We washed it down with a latte, which was also very good. Had we had more space, their cinnamon buns certainly looked tempting. Whether you’re looking for a good coffee, a tasty meal, or some baked goods, this is one of the most popular bakery restaurants in Sudbury.
Beard’s Bakery
Beard’s Bakery is a Sudbury gem, especially for those seeking vegan treats. Located across the street from Tuco’s Taco Lounge and right next to Flurples Ice Cream, this entire street seems to be Vegan Heaven. I was unaware of this until I asked for regular milk and was told they didn’t have any. Thankfully, it worked out, because I went with oat milk and it was one of the best lattes I’ve ever had. Both my wife and I agreed. I’ve now asked for this in some other coffee shops, but for some reason, they don’t compare. While we highly recommend ordering a latte with oat milk, they also serve a variety of pastries, cakes, breads, and other treats.
Cara’s Deli
Cara’s Deli is Sudbury’s go-to spot for unbeatable sandwiches and comfort food with a local twist! This charming deli is known for its hearty, handcrafted sandwiches piled high with fresh ingredients, from classic pastrami on rye to their famous Paul Bunyan, which has ham, turkey, roast beef, pastrami, capicola, salami, lettuce, onions, and cheese on a paniotti bun. Cara’s Deli shares a location with a convenience store but has ample seating inside for those not wanting to eat in. The people are friendly and the cozy, friendly atmosphere makes Cara’s the perfect place to catch up with friends or grab a meal on the go.
Gus’ Restaurant
Gus’ Restaurant is one of those classic joints that’s been delighting locals with its warm hospitality and mouthwatering comfort food for years! Known for its hearty, homemade dishes that hit the spot every time, Gus’ offers everything from perfectly seasoned burgers and savoury meatloaf to classic breakfast dishes like omelettes, pancakes, and bologna. The cozy, retro ambiance makes it feel like a home away from home.
During our visit, the owner was serving us and her kids were eating at the table next to us, proving that this really is a family-run business. It was a bit slow during our visit but if you’re looking for that classic greasy diner food, this is the place to go.
Salute Coffee Company
When it comes to coffee, Salute Coffee Company is one of the most popular places in Sudbury.
Known for its expertly brewed coffee, the menu features an array of delicious options, from classic espresso drinks to creative concoctions such as a Blended Mocha Monkey or a Salted Caramel Mocha, which is perfect on a hot summer day. In addition to coffee and tea, they also make some tasty food, such as smoked salmon bagels, meatball sandwiches, and seasonal scones.

I wasn’t quite sure what to expect from non-dairy ice cream but honestly, the caramel espresso ice cream was one of the best I’ve ever had. The orange sorbet was equally good if you’re looking for more of a fruity taste. Located right next to Beard’s Bakery, you could also pop by for an oat milk latte.
