Golden Skybridge: Canada’s Highest Suspension Bridge and a Must-Visit Attraction in British Columbia

September 16, 2025 By Matthew G. Bailey Leave a Comment

Golden Skybridge, Golden, BC.

Nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies, the Golden Skybridge is one of those places that makes you stop in your tracks and say, “Wow, this is why I love Canada.” It’s dramatic. It’s adventurous. And it’s got views so jaw-dropping you’ll find yourself running out of adjectives. Opened in 2021, this record-setting attraction has quickly become one of British Columbia’s must-visit experiences, drawing thrill-seekers, nature lovers, and families alike. If you’re looking for the perfect blend of adrenaline-pumping adventure and awe-inspiring scenery, the Golden Skybridge delivers in spades.

We’ve personally been to the Golden Skybridge three times already. We went for the grand opening, then we brought our parents on a road trip to Kelowna, and then we came back to experience every single attraction they offer. This isn’t just something to do in Golden. It’s a destination in and of itself.

What Is the Golden Skybridge?

The Golden Skybridge is not just a bridge—it’s two massive suspension bridges that span a deep canyon just outside the mountain town of Golden, B.C. At 426 feet (130 metres) above a roaring river, the main bridge is Canada’s highest suspension bridge. The second bridge, slightly lower, gives visitors another angle of this stunning landscape. Together, they create a looped experience that’s both exhilarating and accessible, letting you stroll high above the trees while soaking in the majesty of the Columbia Valley.

But the Skybridge is more than just a “walk across a big bridge” experience. The park has been designed as a full-scale adventure hub, with activities ranging from ziplining to a mountain coaster, axe throwing, and even a giant swing that sends riders soaring out over the canyon. Whether you want to push your limits or simply take in the view with a latte in hand, there’s something for everyone.

Why It’s a Must-Visit in British Columbia

British Columbia is spoiled for natural wonders, but the Golden Skybridge stands out for a few reasons:

The Views Are Next-Level

When you step onto the bridge, you’re suspended between two mountain ranges—the Purcells and the Rockies. Below, a rugged canyon carved by a rushing river. All around, layers of forests and snow-capped peaks. The views stretch for miles, giving you a vantage point that few places in the province can match. On a clear day, you can even spot Mount Seven, a local landmark beloved by paragliders.

It’s Accessible Adventure

Not everyone is up for summitting a mountain or tackling a backcountry hike, but the Skybridge makes “big adventure” accessible to just about anyone. Families with kids, grandparents, and casual travellers can all enjoy the thrill of being sky-high without needing mountaineering skills. Trust us. We brought our parents to cross the bridge, and for them, it was truly a bucket-list experience.

Adrenaline Options Galore

For those who crave more than just a scenic walk, the park is loaded with adventure add-ons. Want to zoom across the canyon at highway speeds? Take the zipline. Prefer to feel like Superman on a pendulum swing? The Canyon Edge Swing has you covered. And if you’d rather test your reflexes, there’s axe-throwing and a ropes course.

It’s Perfectly Located

Golden sits right on the Trans-Canada Highway, making the Skybridge an easy stop whether you’re road-tripping between Calgary and Vancouver, or exploring the nearby national parks like Banff, Yoho, and Glacier. In fact, Golden is often overlooked compared to its more famous neighbours, but attractions like the Skybridge are putting it firmly on the map. For us at Must Do Canada, Golden has always been one of our favourite places as it’s home to epic white water rafting in the spring and incredible skiing in the winter. The Star of the Show: Walking the Bridges

Let’s be honest—the main reason you come here is to walk the bridges. And they don’t disappoint. The first time you step onto the suspension bridge, there’s a little wobble beneath your feet, just enough to remind you that you’re high above the canyon floor. But the design is sturdy and secure, so even the most cautious visitors quickly settle in and start soaking up the scenery.

Each bridge offers a slightly different perspective. The higher bridge is the showstopper, delivering that surreal feeling of floating in the sky. The lower bridge brings you closer to the river and waterfall below, letting you hear the roar of the water as it plunges through the gorge. The combination makes for a loop that feels both thrilling and immersive.

More Than Just Bridges: Activities at the Golden Skybridge

While the bridges are the crown jewel, the Golden Skybridge has expanded into a full-scale adventure park. Here’s a taste of what you can do beyond the sky-high stroll:

1. Canyon Edge Challenge Course

A ropes course designed to test your balance and agility, this activity lets you navigate wobbly bridges, cargo nets, and swinging platforms—all with the canyon as your backdrop. It’s a fantastic way to channel your inner adventurer. This was our first time experiencing a course like this, and it was both fun and challenging.

2. Giant Canyon Swing

If simply walking above the canyon isn’t enough, the Canyon Edge Swing takes things to an entirely new level. You’ll be strapped into a harness, hoisted up, and then released into a free-falling arc that swings you out over the gorge. It’s pure adrenaline, and not for the faint of heart.

3. Sky Zipline

Flying across the canyon at speeds up to 70 km/h? Yes, please. The zipline gives you a bird’s-eye view of the bridge itself and the incredible valley beyond. For many visitors, this is the highlight of their day, offering a dose of excitement that pairs perfectly with the serene beauty of the bridges.

4. Railrider Mountain Coaster

One of the park’s newer additions, the Railrider Mountain Coaster is a gravity-powered ride that twists and turns down the mountainside. Riders control their own speed, making it as mellow or thrilling as they like. Think of it as a rollercoaster-meets-luge run with some of the best views you’ll ever see on a ride.

5. Axe Throwing

Because why not? Test your lumberjack skills with a round of axe throwing. It’s equal parts fun and strangely satisfying to hit the target (and even more so when you finally stick a bullseye).

6. Kids’ Adventure Park

Families aren’t left out—there’s a dedicated area for little ones, with climbing structures, mini-zip lines, and safe play spaces to let them burn off energy while the grownups take in the views.

Insider Tips for Visiting

If you’re planning a trip to the Golden Skybridge, here are a few handy tips to make the most of your adventure:

  • Arrive early or late in the day. Not only will you avoid the busiest crowds, but the lighting is best in the morning and evening for photos. While summers can be busy at any time, it’ll be quieter during the weekdays in the spring and fall.
  • Wear comfy shoes. The bridges and surrounding paths are easy to navigate, but you’ll be walking and exploring.
  • Bundle your activities. If you know you want to do the zipline, swing, or coaster, look for combo passes to save some money.
  • Give yourself enough time. While you could walk the bridges in under an hour, the full experience—including activities, food, and relaxation—can easily fill half a day.
  • Don’t forget your camera. Trust me, you’ll want to capture the views.

Food and Relaxation

All that adventuring works up an appetite. The Skybridge Village at the base area offers food trucks, a café, and places to kick back and enjoy the scenery. There’s often live music or special events happening, making it a great spot to unwind after your canyon escapades.

The Golden Factor: Exploring Beyond the Skybridge

Part of what makes the Golden Skybridge so special is its location. Golden, B.C., may not be as famous as Banff or Jasper, but it’s surrounded by six national parks—Yoho, Glacier, Banff, Jasper, Kootenay, and Mount Revelstoke. Wow! That means endless opportunities for hiking, rafting, skiing, and wildlife viewing are just a short drive away.

In town, you’ll find a friendly mountain community with breweries, restaurants, and plenty of small-town charm. In the spring or summer, we highly recommend combining a visit to the Skybridge with rafting the Kicking Horse River, one of the most exciting and scenic rivers in the country. Other options include hiking in Yoho National Park or exploring world-famous Banff National Park.

A Perfect Day at the Golden Skybridge (and Golden, B.C.)

To help you plan your trip, here’s a sample itinerary that fits perfectly with a Canadian Rockies adventure:

Morning:

  • Arrive in Golden and fuel up with breakfast at a local café.
  • Head straight to the Golden Skybridge to beat the crowds and enjoy the bridges in the morning light. Walk both bridges and soak in the views before the day heats up.

Late Morning to Afternoon:

  • Kick the adrenaline up a notch with the Sky Zipline or Railrider Mountain Coaster.
  • Grab lunch at one of the food trucks or cafés on site.

Afternoon:

  • Try axe-throwing or the Canyon Edge Challenge Course for a fun, hands-on adventure.
  • Take some time to relax at the Skybridge Village, maybe with a cold drink and live music if it’s happening that day.

Evening:

  • Head back into Golden for dinner. Whitetooth Brewing Company is a local favourite for craft beer, and restaurants like The Island Restaurant or Wolf’s Den offer hearty meals perfect after a day of adventure.
  • If you still have energy, take a scenic drive up to Mount Seven for sunset—it’s one of the best viewpoints in the valley.

This mix of adventure, relaxation, and small-town charm makes for the kind of Canadian Rockies day that Must Do Canada was made to highlight.
