The beautiful historic Deane House is located in the charming and eclectic neighbourhood of Inglewood, right next to the Elbow River, offering views of downtown Calgary. This is one of those places where the high tea is exemplified by the location itself and offers a touch of elegance. Served Friday to Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m., Their flavourful menu costs $65 per person and includes items such as cucumber sandwiches, braised beef croquette, and chocolate hazelnut opera cake. However, please note that the menu changes throughout the season. In addition, the Deane House also doubles as one of the best Calgary restaurants.
2. Hawthorn at the Fairmont Palliser
Location: 133 9 Ave. S.W., Calgary
Located in the heart of downtown Calgary, The Fairmont Palliser is an iconic destination for high tea enthusiasts. Like most, if not all Fairmont properties, it is both luxurious and historic, making it perfect for enjoying a quintessential high tea experience. Served from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, indulge in a delectable assortment of finger sandwiches, freshly baked scones with clotted cream and preserves, and an array of mouthwatering pastries. Sip on a fragrant cup of tea and let the ambiance transport you to a bygone era of elegance. $80 per person.
3. The And Some Cafe
Location: 540 7 Ave. N.W., Calgary
While most places only serve Calgary high tea on the weekends, this cozy cafe offers a delightful afternoon tea from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, offering a selection of coffee or tea and irresistible treats. Rather than charge per person, The And Some Cafe offers a charming Ferris Wheel Afternoon Tea for $124, which includes macarons, mini square cake, financiers, scones, madeleines, mini croissants, cucumber sands, Jerry cheesecake, parfaits (strawberry and chocolate), avocado and shrimp toasts, ham and smoked salmon toasts, and one pot of tea.
4. Bow Valley Ranche Restaurant
Location: 15979 Bow Bottom Trail SE, Calgary
Nestled within the scenic Fish Creek Provincial Park, The Ranche Restaurant offers a unique high tea experience within a historic house surrounded by nature’s beauty. Enjoy a selection of teas accompanied by delectable pastries, finger sandwiches, and seasonal delights. Their Afternoon Tea is $55 per person and is available on Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4 pm, offering a three-tier display including regular coffee or a selection of loose-leaf tea along with Freshly baked scones, house-made preserves, marmalade & clotted cream, daily crafted tea sandwiches and canapes, a selection of signature mini pastries and assorted sweets.
5. Reader’s Garden Cafe
Location: 311 25 Ave. S.E., Calgary
Located in the beautiful Reader Rock Garden near Stampede Park, Reader’s Garden Cafe offers high tea on select summer days starting at 3 pm. The experience includes tea or coffee and three tiers of tasty snacks like smoked salmon tea sandwiches, buttermilk scones, and chocolate ganache cake. The cost is $48 per person and if you can get in on one of the select dates, you won’t be disappointed. The property itself is one of the most beautiful in Calgary.
6. Nova Nine
Location: 3303 3 Ave. N.W., Calgary
Located in the scenic Parkdale neighbourhood and right across from the Bow River, Nove Nine offers afternoon tea Fridays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Enjoy a mouth-watering selection of finger sandwiches and delicate sweets on their patio overlooking the Bow River for just $50 per couple, making it the cheapest high tea in Calgary.
7. Heritage Park
Location: 1900 Heritage Dr. S.W., Calgary
For a special and unique tea experience, Heritage Park offers several high tea in Calgary experiences, including Tea on the Verandah on Sundays from June to September and River Forth Afternoon Tea on Tuesdays from June to August. This charming café offers its specially curated Wilde About Tea service on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 to 4 p.m. The experience includes sweet and savoury bites like classic scones, apple cheddar scones with clotted cream and homemade seasonal fruit compote, lemon raspberry layered cake, mango & matcha tartlet, smoked salmon on black sesame waffle, and so much more. The cost is $65 per person.
9. The Noble Teahouse in High River
Location: 440 Macleod Trail SW, High River
Although this location required a 30-45 minute drive to High River, it’s well worth the road trip. Not only is the Alberta foothills area around High River and Okotoks lovely to see, but High River is also a charming little town perfect for a stroll. When it comes to high tea, however, it’s hard not to recommend the Noble Teahouse. Location in a beautiful 100-year-old Victorian home, it provided the perfect ambience for a high tea experience. For $55 per person, you’ll get lots of tasty sandwiches, sweets, and scones with clotted cream. In addition to the great food and ambiance, they also support women in the community, offering work to women in recovery.
10. The British Tea House in High River
Location: Unit 102 426 5 Ave SE, High River
Also located in High River, this place is as British as it gets. With mini British flags hanging from the ceiling, The British Tea House offers a delicious high tea menu in addition to other British dishes and snacks. They also offer the cheapest high tea we’ve found. At just $35 per person, the sandwiches, desserts, scones, and tea are some of the best we’ve had. This restaurant offers the best value when it comes it comes to high tea and serves as the perfect excuse to get out of the city and head to the countryside.
